Air Down Guide

Recommended tire pressures by terrain type, scaled to your stock PSI and tire size. Airing down widens the contact patch for better traction, flotation, and ride comfort off-road.

Highway / Stock Tire Pressure (PSI)

Find this on your door jamb sticker or owner's manual.

35 PSI

Tire Diameter

inches custom

Recommended PSI by Terrain

Based on 35" tires at 35 PSI stock

Highway / Pavement

Always return to stock before highway driving.

35 PSI

Gravel / Dirt Road

Light reduction improves traction on loose gravel.

30–33 PSI

Hard Pack / Forest Road

Good for most forest roads; reduces jarring.

22–28 PSI

Typical Off-Road / Trail

Wider contact patch, better traction, smoother ride.

18–22 PSI

Mud / Wet Terrain

Lower PSI helps the tire claw through soft ground.

14–18 PSI

Sand / Beach / Dunes

Float on sand. Check bead seating frequently.

10–14 PSI

Rock Crawling

Max footprint on rock faces. Bead locks recommended at 10 PSI.

10–14 PSI

Safety & Equipment Notes

Bead locks are strongly recommended below 10 PSI — standard rims can lose the bead and deflate instantly.

Always re-air before returning to highway — driving at highway speed on aired-down tires overheats the sidewall and causes blowouts.

• Carry a portable compressor (CO2, 12V, or on-board air) for every off-road trip.

• Check PSI after each major terrain change — tire pressure drops naturally as tires heat up.

• Heavy/loaded vehicles should use the higher end of each range to prevent rim-strike damage.
